Chair of Trustees: Sally Newton
Sally is a local Councillor sitting on the Hertford Town Council and the County Council of Hertfordshire since February 2005. Previously her career had been in pharmaceuticals and she qualified as a science technician on leaving school. She also qualified as a secretary.
Sally currently holds to position of Mayor Of Hertford, having previously held this role from 2005-2006, and is also Chairman of the Health Scrutiny Committee for Hertfordshire, and the Police Authority lead for East Herts
Vice Chair of Trustees: Clive Duffey
Clive has been working in the events and banqueting industry from junior to senior management for the past 20 years. At Knebworth House he worked through the ranks to become General Manager of a £3 million business.
Clive has worked on many great events in his time including Buckingham Palace tea parties, The Mobo awards, Royal Ascot, Chelsea Flower Show, Royal film premieres, Royal openings, Opening of the Channel Tunnel, Epsom Derby events with celebrity chefs including Garry Rhodes and Gordon Ramsey.
Clive sits on the LGBT committee of the GMB union. He also sat on the board of the Stevenage Millennium committee 1999 – 2000 advising and assisting the committee how to spend lottery and government funding given to the town.

Ian Buchan
Ian Buchan is currently a senior manager in an older peoples charity. He has 25 years’ experience in the health and social care field, working mostly with older people both in direct services and commissioning roles. He first worked with people with HIV in the 80’s as a Social Worker in South London, going on to be the manager of a specialist Care Team in Westminster and independent trainer in the field.
Prior to his current position he was the senior manager responsible for Hackney Council’s In-House Care Services, and started his working life in a community alarm scheme for older people in south London and went on to become a social worker and manager.
He also has experience of the voluntary sector as Chair of one of London’s Age Concern branches and was a Samaritans volunteer for nearly 20 years. He qualified in 2000 as a Psychosexual Therapist and has been working privately for some time in this field.
Mercy Rufuse
Mercy grew up in Zimbabwe and ran her own business for many years. She has a deep understanding of how HIV affects the African Community, and brings a wealth of cultural knowledge to the trustee board.
Marie Davies
Marie Davies has worked in senior management roles within the voluntary sector for the past 15 years for local, regional and national charities. She is experienced in working with trustee boards at a strategic level as well as managing and motivating staff teams and implementing agreed strategies. She has been a trustee of Herts Aid for 2 years.
Marie has held senior positions such as Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Deputy Chief Executive and Director within various organisations, many of them health related. As well as running organisations, Marie has been responsible for fundraising and marketing. Marie has gained extensive staff management experience and has over the years built teams who have successfully met their objectives.
Currently Marie works as a Consultant providing help and guidance on fundraising strategy as well as interim management of staff teams to the charity sector.
Cllr Roger Willis
Cllr Roger Willis joined the Herts Aid board of Trustees in September 2011. Roger is a Hertford Town Councillor and brings a wealth of experience to the board having worked for Stanstead Airport, Epping County Council and Corporation of London. Roger also volunteers his time to a range of other worthwhile causes and is also a Trustee for Hertford Toy Library.
